Return Codes

what do you mean " return codes" ?

When doing configuration from the CLI, if something isn' t right, you' ll get a message that says something like this: entry not found in datasource Attribute ' interface' value ' ' checkingfail -3 Command fail. Return code -3 I' m new to FortiGates so I see a lot of these code with different numbers. I haven' t been able to find a listing of them. Wes

Unfortunately there' s no listing that I know of. You have to hope there is a quick error message before the error code. If you get a particularly cryptic one, people here might be able to help. If you' re really stuck you could also bug me on MSN, I know a few of em ;)

Yes, so far, there have been little short messages that have been some help. I was hoping for a fuller description. Thanks for the offer. I may need to take you up on it. Wes

Try to do as much as you can from the GUI, this usually shows more descriptive error details. Only use the CLI when you have too.

Thanks. I will. Right now I' m setting up a GRE tunnel with multicasting. That seemed to required the CLI. Wes
