I had to delete and make an entirely new VM but setting the VM version
to 7.2 fixed it for me. There must be a compatibility problem with
Proxmox 8.x. This helped a lot. Thanks.
I have the same problem with the trial license for 7.4.2 in a similar
environment with Proxmox. I tried repeatedly applying the license,
