Description This article describes how to avoid high CPU usage when launching 3 or more secrets via FortiPAM.
Scope

FortiPAM v1.4.1 until v1.6.

Google Chrome and Edge.
Solution

When at least three Secrets are launched via WEB RDP or HTTPS from a workstation (VM), the CPU usage can be observed to spike considerably, rendering the VM inoperable or very slow. The issue is observed with Chromium-based browsers (Google Chrome and Edge). Native screen recording in the browser remains a CPU-intensive task; therefore, if the user's device is not powerful enough, they will continue to experience high CPU usage.

This issue matches the Bug ID 1152719.

Here is the status of the VM's CPU usage when three Secrets are launched via Google Chrome or Edge from the same VM:

  1. To resolve this bug, upgrade to version 1.7 (with extension 7.4.4.1847).

  2. There are two possible workarounds:
  • Access FortiPAM and launch the secrets through the Firefox browser. Here is the status of the CPU usage from Firefox after 3 or more secrets are launched from the same VM:

  • Suggested to reduce the recording resolution in FortiPAM settings from 720p to 480p, as shown:
