Description

This article describes what is CFP2 and QSFP Fiber Optic Transceiver.

Scope

CFP2 and QSFP+/QSFP28/QSFP56/QSFPDD transceivers.

Solution
  • CFP2 stands for C Form-factor Pluggable 2, and QSFP stands for Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable.
  • Those technologies can support up to 400 Gbps.
  • They are designed for high-bandwidth and long-distance optical communication in data centers and enterprise networks.
  • WDM technology allowed CFP2 to integrate with different wavelengths.
  • They also support in multimode and single mode fibe.
  • MPO (Multi-fiber Push-On) connector is widely used on those interfaces.

Types of CFP2 and QSFP Fiber Optic Transceiver:

  • QSFP+: Up to 40G (10Gbps per channel, 4 Channel in total).
  • CFP2: Up to 400G  (50 Gbps per channel, 8 channels in total).
  • QSFP28: Up to 100 Gbps (25 Gbps per channel, 4 channels in total).
  • QSFP56: Up to 200 Gbps (50 Gbps per channel, 4 channels in total).
  • QSFP-DD (Double Density): Up to 400 Gbps (50 Gbps per channel with 8 channels).

In conclusion, CFP2 is a large form factor, it can be used on different applications and layer 1 optical communication systems. QSFP is made from a smaller form factor and used for high-speed communications on Enterprise and Data Center. Engineers can use QSFP and CFP2, depending on the network requirement.
