Description

This article describes how to modify the chassis fan speed setting on the shelf manager.


Scope

FortiGate Chassis Fan, FortiGate 5140


Solution
The following steps can be used to modify the speed setting of the chassis fans:

1. Connect to the shelf manager via console/SSH.

2. Check the system carrier information by using the command clia version, this will produce output as shown below. In this example the chassis is seen to be using carrier "ACB" and subtype of 4:
# clia version

3. Change the directory to /etc and make a backup of the existing configuration file by using the following commands:
# cd /etc/
# cp shelfman.conf.ACB-IV shelfman.conf.ACB-IV.bkp
4. Modify the file using the vi command and set the value of "MIN_FAN_LEVEL" to the desired level, for example 8. Save the file.
# vi shelfman.conf.ACB-IV
5. Remove the shelf manager from the chassis. It should be noted that the chassis's fan will run at maximum speed at this time.

6. Insert the shelf manager back into the chassis and use the following command to check the change has taken effect:
# clia fans
