FOS 7.0.14

Hello

FortiOS 7.0.14 in released since yesterday with many bug fixes.

https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortigate/7.0.14/fortios-release-notes/289806/resolved-issues

Edit: 7.2.7 (mature!) and 7.4.3 as well.

Interesting that 7.2.7 moved to "mature" when it looks like there are no resolved issues in 7.2.7 (other than maybe a fix for CVE-2023-38545).

FortiNet_Newb

Never mind, I guess "Mature" in FortiNet speak just means they will not be adding any NEW features to the 7.2 chain going forward, just issuing minor fixes.

Yurisk

Exactly, "Mature" just means no new features will be added, it says nothing about already existing bugs yet to be discovered )). And from first reports, 7.2.7 is anything but free of bugs. I went for 7.0.14 as a safer option, so far no regrets.

Any chance you know of a good url to see current releases and their current release level? (Mature, Feature, etc.) . I came into my org with an NVA on an out of support version and I'm trying to find the current preferred release. Thanks in advance for any help.

Son of a gun. Right after my post I finally found a link from someone in a post somewhere. Sorry about that.

This is what I am going to go by: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Recommended-Release-for-FortiOS/ta-p/22717...

I would expect those 7.0.13s would be updated to 7.0.14s very soon. Last update was 1/26/2024. So it must be actively updated/maintained.

As I expected, two major/critical vulnerabilities were announced right after 7.4.3, 7.2.7 and 7.0.14 were released. We have to scramble to upgrade all of our key FGTs, which use SSL VPN and FMG. These are not in the releasenotes yet but soon will be.

We are currently on 7.0.14, not sure if i want to go to 7.2.7

Suggestions?

AEK

If I'm not wrong I guess soon (in few months maybe) FortiOS 7.0.x will be end of engineering life, that means they will stop releasing bug fixes, only vulnerability fixes will be released. So you can start planning  for the upgrade to 7.6 soon, but nothing urgent.
