Antivirus turned on, processor maxed out.

We are running Fortigate 311B MR2 patch3. We started this up about 2 months ago and have only be running the Web filter up until today. As of today we added the Antivirus. Now the processor is getting maxed out. The antivirus is set up exactly like the default for scanning viruses and Quarantine. The file filter is not being used yet. Any ideas on why this would max out the processor?

Actually, what seems to be happening is on the system resources widget on the dashboard, it shows it creeps up to 99% and then starts over at about 10% and does it again. Can' t pinpoint what' s causing this. In looking at the Task Manager on the server, the CPU Usage is bouncing up and down through the same ranges. Is this normal?

Hi, Run the following command to determin which process is using the CPU time: diag sys top And tell what process is using up the CPU cycles. Also have a look at you memory consumption... If its the AV engine in default operation, then memory usage would go up as well while scanning! If you are using IPS or AppControl as well, then upgrade straight to 4.2.6 (actually, this would be the first thing I' d do!!)... best regards, Roman
