Description This article describes how to troubleshoot when failing to log in using 'remote_wildcard'.
Scope FortiMail.
Solution

The 'remote_wildcard' account is used to log in using many accounts in the LDAP or RADIUS server. When trying to log in using the administrator account for 'remote_wildcard' with LDAP authentication and the login fails, try to check as below for troubleshooting:

  • Tested using User Query Option can find the user.

  • Check if the Administrator name for the account that wants to use 'remote_wildcard' exists under System -> Administrator -> Administrator. For this example, the administrator's name is 'test'.

  • The administrator account for 'test' is disabled and the 'remote_wildcard' is enabled. FortiMail will check for administrator account 'test' when trying to log in to the FortiMail. After deleting the administrator 'test' account, the administrator can log in using 'remote_wildcard'.
