Description

This article describes how to troubleshoot an Error 'Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Fortinet\FortiClient\FA_UPDATE\SoftwareUpdate. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel' observed on the Windows OS while trying to install FortiClient.

Solution
  1. It will be necessary to login to the Windows device using a local Administrator account. Otherwise, the following steps need to be performed with a System Administrator privileged account through the Domain.

  2. Select Start and enter msconfig. If that did not work, try msconfig.exe.

  1. In the System Configuration dialog window, select 'Diagnostic Startup' under the General tab, then reboot the computer.

  1. In the Services tab, try to stop the process. If that didn't work, use services.msc and set the process to Manual.

  1. After rebooting, try to run the FCRemove again.
