Description

This article describes how to troubleshoot an issue where the OSPF neighbor is stuck in a loading state.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

See one of the following articles if the network is stuck in one of the other states:

- Troubleshooting Tip: OSPF Neighbor stuck in INIT state.

- Technical Tip: Why multiple OSPF neighbors on FortiGate are stuck in 2-Way state?.

- Troubleshooting Tip: OSPF Neighbour stuck in EXSTART/EXCHANGE state.

 

Always note the size of the OSPF packets during cases where the neighbour state gets stuck at 'loading'. For example: note large LSU packets containing large router LSA.

 

In these cases, take simultaneous packet captures on both OSPF neighbors to find any missing packets.

 

FortiGate may generate a large Type-1 LSA (total packet length) that may have difficulty reaching the destination.
