Description

This article describes how to download the SNMP MIBs for OIDs not included in the FortiGate/Fortinet MIBs.

Scope

FortiOS.

Solution

FortiGates include two default SNMP MIBs by default, including FortiGate/Fortinet specific OIDs for information reported from FortiGates. However, these MIBs do not include all of the SNMP OIDs that FortiGates support for traps or for being queried.

For example, BGP and OSPF OIDs are not included in the FortiGate MIBs, as a FortiGate will use the standard ISO MIBs like the RFC-1213 MIB for reporting these OIDs. These MIBs are not provided by Fortinet, but can instead be downloaded from oidref.com.

For verification on whether a specific OID is Fortinet proprietary or not, it is useful to note that FortiGate/Fortinet specific OIDs will always include Fortinet’s vendor ID of 12356. Below is a packet capture of a FortiGate being queried for its FortiOS version. Note the ‘12356’ as part of the OID path:

When queried for the BGP local AS number of the FortiGate, the Fortinet vendor ID of 12356 is not visible because this is an ISO standard MIB and is therefore not included in the Fortigate MIBs.

Instructions on how to download Fortinet/FortiGate proprietary MIBs can be found in Technical Tip: Download FortiOS and FortiCore MIB files.

Information on what MIB groups are supported by FortiOS can be found in the administration guide.
