FortiAP
FortiAP devices are thin wireless access points (AP) supporting the latest Wi-Fi technologies (multi-user MIMO 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2, 4x4), as well as 802.11n, 802.11AX , and the demand for plug and play deployment.

Description

This article describes an issue that occurs where the operating channel shows as '0' on both Radio0(2.4GHz) and Radio1(5GHz) in 431G/433G access points. The issue is mainly seen in new deployments.

Scope FortiAP 431G/433G.
Solution In a scenario where the operating channel shows as '0' in 431/433G access point, the radio configuration on the AP is as follows:

# rcfg

Radio 0: AP

  channel           : num=0

  oper_chan       : 0

  r_ac md_cap   :   1,   6,  11,

  r_ac chan list   :   1,   6,  11,

  chan list           :   1,   6,  11,

Radio 1: AP

  channel           : num=0

  oper_chan       : 0

  chan list           :  36,  40,  44,  48, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165,

  hw_chan list     :  36,  40,  44,  48,  52,  56,  60,  64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128,

                    132, 136, 140, 144, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165,

This issue is seen when only 802.3af power is provided to the AP. As a result, the poe status shows as low:

    poe mode             : low(auto)

    poe mode oper        : low

    usb port             : disabled

All radio interfaces must be disabled for 802.3af power. The access point needs to be provided with 802.3at or 802.3bt power to enable radio interfaces.

A relevant snippet from the datasheet for FortiAP 431G/433G:

PoE Mode 802.3af : Low – All Radios Disabled ;USB – Disabled

802.3at : High – Tx Power Full;Chain 2x2; USB – Disabled

802.3bt / DC : Full – Tx Power Full ; Chain 4x4;USB – Enabled

On a fully powered access point , poe mode shows as follows:

poe mode : high(auto)

poe mode oper : high
