Scope FortiWLC v8.6.
Solution
  1. Collecting Controller Diagnostics:

Navigate to Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> and under Collect Diagnostics select 'Controller Diagnostics' -> Hit 'Collect Diagnostics'.

Note: Controller diagnostics contains the Controller logs, running-config, crash records and essential command outputs required for problem diagnosis.

  1. Collecting System Diagnostics:

Navigate to Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> and under Collect Diagnostics select 'System Diagnostics' -> Hit 'System Diagnostics'.

Note: System Diagnostics is normally a large file as it contains logs from both the Controller and the APs. The System Diagnostics file should be exported only if there are issues related to the AP/radios; otherwise, 'Controller Diagnostics' should suffice for problem diagnosis.

  1. Export running-config:

copy running-config startup-config

Then export the config, navigate to Maintenance -> File Management - > Configuration - > Select running-config - > EXPORT.

Note: Running-config file contains wireless config, such as SSIDs, radios, APs settings, etc.

  1. As a best practise, before performing a FortiWLC firmware upgrade. Download FortiWLC diagnostics and running-config files from the controller.
