why does fortimanger require name resoluton when creating a subnet address

Looked at the admin guide, and the example it shows, is www.google.com (As a subnet object???)

Need to add a simple subnet object like "192.168.0.0/16".  Is this possible?

I have many address objects of type Subnet, that were created in a FortiGate before FortiManager came along.

When trying to add in FortiManager, It clears the subnet address I try to add within IP/Netmask and then says "Invalid IP address"

Does FortiManager have a different concept of a subnet address object than the FortiGate does?

I know I can add an IP range (probably), but that means I have to go through and edit "all" of the exiting definitions.

In the FortiGate, when adding a subnet object, I can name it something like "sn-bob" and it does (or at least did not previously) require that it resolve to anything.

I'm hoping that I am missing something stupid.

Thank you, @dbeitler .

I can reproduce this issue in my lab FMG 7.2.8.

And I have found an existing Mantis for this issue:  1069285 This bug is for FMG 7.2 train only.

The fix is included in FMG 7.2.10 or later.

Regards,

Jerry

If, after entering the IP/Netmask, I press "Tab" several times to get to Comments, it empties out the IP/Netmask file and says Invalid IP.

If I go directly to Comments from IP/Netmask, the setting in IP/Netmask is retained.

Note: I consider this solved.  This occurs on two separate FM instance, so it is obviously a GUI programming issue that no one has come across before.

Hi @dbeitler ,

My FMG is running 7.4.5 and my ADOM is 7.4.  I tested it with your steps, no issue.

So I still need you to provide your FMG version and/or your ADOM version for testing.

Jerry

Two instances, same issue.

7.2.8

with ADOM in normal mode on both.

One is using 1 of 5, the other 0 of 5 ADOMs

Administrative Domain is on for the first, off for the second

Sounds good.  Thanks for hanging in there.  Will probably schedule an update in the next couple of days for both units

Hi @dbeitler ,

1) Please reply under the question. Otherwise, we may have no idea what questions you are replying.

2) If you are adding more information for the same reply, you may EDIT the existing reply.

I need your FMG version + ADOM version if you enabled ADOM to test it.

Regards,

Jerry
