If sender alignment is used on Fortimail, it will block emails sent by some third-party applications for example from smartphones even if a domain of the sender (e.g. gmail.com) is legitimate. Would you happen to know how to avoid it?

Sender alignment feature checks if the header from is the same as the envelope from, in order to detect sender spoofing.
If your smartphone's mail app is well configured to send the e-mail from your mail server then the header from and the envelope from should always be aligned and such error should not happen.
