lost admin password

hi together! i didn' t need the password for 5 months now! now i wanted to login but i can' t remember the password! For my bad i didn' t save the configuration! So is there a way to reset the admin password? (serial or https?) or do i have to reset to factory default! if you have a solution you can also send me an email to privat@little.at thanks a lot in advance! bye Juergen

you can get access utilising the serial number of the unit on the serial CLI immediate after bootup. Instructions below; Password recovery must be from the console and can only be done within the first 2 minutes of the unit powering up (not reboot, full power down cycle). Do the following steps: - Power cycle the Fortigate - Connect via console and login with the following credentials: Username: maintainer Password: bcpbFGT-<serial number> - config system admin - set password <New Password Here> - end You should now have a new admin password.

Is there a different procedure for a Fortiwifi 60A/M? I ask because I have not been able to get the procedure to work. The s/n begins with FWF60M. ...jim

Same thing but your passwd to guess will be: bcpbFWF60M.... p/d: in new releases the ' first 2 minutes' seems to be reduced to ' the first 30 seconds' in my experience.

Abel, Thanks for the tip. I had already tried the same guess as yours, but must have taken too long in my previous attempts, as when doing it right after the prompt, it worked just fine. I think your estimate of 30 seconds is probably prettyt accurate. ...jim
