how fortimail works

dear expert,

I'm about to integrate my FML to GWS. I have 1500 mailboxes, and the company purchased only 1300 mailboxes.

Questions.

1. How is the FortiMail able to identify, filter, or inspect 1300 email addresses?

2. Customer requirement. 1300 identified email addresses/users will only hit/pass the FML for inspection in both directions (inbound/outbound). The remaining 200 email users should bypass FML inspection

3. How do we count licenses if a user (x) is a member of a single or multiple aliases or groups?

Appreciate any inputs. Thank you.

Hello

This section from FML ordering guide should help:

Ordering Information
Please note that billing is based on customer declaration (the number of active mailboxes a customer declares to Fortinet).
Fortinet uses internal methods to validate the customers declared number users.
*LDAP recipient verification is required to ensure an accurate user count on the product dashboard.

I think it means it is checked via LDAP recipient verification (by LDAP account, not by mail address).

Dear @AEK, appreciate the quick revert. Please bear with my questions.

So the above requirement isn't feasible without LDAP in place? How about creating an email group (ex. Allowed_Email) and manually adding those email addresses?

So by defining the users in the recipient policy, inbound or outbound, is that the only way for FortiMail to inspect email addresses based on the actual mailboxes purchased?

Follow-up question: if the company has 1500 mailboxes and they purchased 1300 mailboxes due to budget constraints. How does the FML count or inspect the first 1300 mailboxes? Is it on a first-come, first-served basis? Does the FML queue drop or discard those email addresses 1301 and beyond?
