forticlient Webfilter chrome plugin - slowwww

Hi, since this morning, navigation is very slow if the forticlient Webfilter is enabled. (v 7.4.3.1761).
strangely, it impacts only the users if the WebFilter profile is disabled on the EMS profile.
as a workaround, the Webfilter is now enabled also if the computers are on-fabric.
Anybody else have this behavior ?

Hi Scooby

If I'm not wrong v7.4.3 is not released yet (not found in release notes).

Hi All, I have this exact problem too.

Same here, the Workaround with setting Webfilter to Always On does the trick for now.

EMS is on 7.2.6 Build 1083, FortiClients from 7.2.5 up to 7.2.8.1140. Doesn´t seem version dependent.

Hi,

Same here.  We've been experiencing this issue since 25th January when the Webfilter Plugin for Chrome-based browsers was updated to version 7.4.3.1761.  It does not appear to affect Firefox (Although that version has not yet updated for me v7.4.1.1733)

If yo have the option to change the Webfilter profile in Forticlient EMS to "Enable WebFiltering on FortiClient" to 'Always On' then it seems to workaround the issue.

For info:

FortiClient Version 7.2.8.1140

Webfilter Plugin Version 7.4.3.1761

Chrome Version 132.0.6834.160 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Edge Version 132.0.2957.127 (Official build) (64-bit)

Guide here: https://docs.fortinet.com/document/forticlient/7.4.2/xml-reference-guide/274190/web-filter

Endpoint Profiles > Web Filter > Select profile & Edit

Select XML > Click Edit at the bottom > Add <keep_extension_when_managed>0</keep_extension_when_managed> into XML

EDIT:  OK, testing on laptop shows the keep_extension_when_managed set to 0 disables the Web Filter when on-fabric, and enables it off-fabric. Further testing required on all profiles we have in use but looks favourable as a workaround for us.

I've rolled back the above setting for a test group and now waiting for the new plugin (Version 7.4.3.1764) to be pushed out.

I'll carry out some tests and fingers crossed, all should be good.

Hi,

Could you please manually disable the Web Filter extension?

restarting browser
Set <keep_extension_when_managed>0</keep_extension_when_managed> in the EMS profile to automatically remove the already installed extension when it is disabled.

We had the same problem. Since yesterday there is a new browser plugin version. For us the solution was to update the plugin and now everything loads fast again.
