You have no write permission to do this operation when defining company on device

I am trying to specify which company a Device is for when i edit the device and i get an error that i do not have write permission

"you have no write permission to do this operation /dvmdb/adom/Managed/device/Devicename"

this FM was working to modify device description before upgrading to 5.6.2

has anyone seen this error before ? and if yes, how did you fix it?
