Wifi setup & recommendations?

Hello, I have a FortiGate-100 in our main office. I’d like to make wifi available to users in the same office. Questions: 1) what sort of wireless device should I get? Anyone have recommendations for a specific device? 2) where should I position the device on the network? Between the FortiGate and switch? Thanks. --Steve

Since you' re on a Fortinet forum I will recommend purchasing a FortiAP(access point) of course. This will also allow you to do CAPWAP between the access point and the FortiGate. As far as the physical location it is up to your convenience really. If you plug into the switch you may want to setup a vlan for the wifi traffic to distinguish it going into the fortigate, or if you want you can just use one of the ports available on the 100D.

Thanks, Warren. Would the FortiAP-221B be a reasonable choice for an office with around 20 users? My FortiGate-100 only has one each of external, internal, and DMZ ports. If I plug it into the switch, is there documentation describing the recommended vlan configuration? Thanks again.

That model should easily accomodate that size office. If you are plugging into switch it depends on what model, if it' s cisco or just like a netgear or something.

Well, neither FAP-221B nor any other FortiAP will work with your particular FortiGate unit as it is too old. FG-100 is not supported on FortiOS 4.x (leave alone 5.X) where wireless support was first introduced. It doesn' t stop you from deploying a " 3rd-party" (I mean not-Fortinet) wireless solution but you wouldn' t get a " single pane of glass" visibility and manageability then.

Ah if it' s an actual 100 then I think Vic is right, I probably assumed it was a 100D.
