Why Can't FortiClient VPN and FortiClient PAM Be Installed Simultaneously Without FortiClient EMS

Hello,
I'm having an issue where I'm unable to install both FortiClient VPN and FortiClient PAM on the same device if the customer does not have a FortiClient EMS Server. It seems like there is a conflict between the two installations. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to have both running without needing an EMS Server, or is it a strict requirement for using both features together? Any guidance or workarounds would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hello

I think this should be resolved by installing only FortiClient (not FortiClient VPN), even without EMS.

As far as I know it can replace FortiClient PAM (for PAM tunnel), and in the meantime it can be used for VPN.

Hope it helps.

Hello, I already test it , but it still does not work.

Testing

1. Install only FortiClient without EMS Server , it doesn't have PAM function.
2. Install FortiPAM first and at the same time I can install FortiClient as well, but it seems like a conflicting service , I can install it but can't open it.

thank you!

There is a similar situation with FSSOMA. There is a standalone FSSOMA-only version of FortiClient, and that cannot be installed/used concurrently with the regular FortiClient (both free or EMS-managed).

This used to be a problem when the free FortiClient version did not include FSSOMA (versions 6.2 ~ early 7.0), but new free FortiClient versions (circa 7.0.3+) support FSSOMA as well.

Given that the standalone FortiPAM client appears to be a minimal, PAM-only, version of FortiClient, it also will not be compatible with any other FortiClient software if already installed on the machine.

The solution would be either to request addition of PAM to the free client in some future version, or switching to full EMS-managed version (and purchasing EMS, of course).
