What is this "installer" doing for 40+ minutes?

I just ran the FortiClientInstaller for the VPN-only client, and it crawled for at least 40 minutes on a very good connection.

What is this thing doing, and why? I see no excuse for not simply posting a disk image.

Thanks, but it doesn't.

  1. Log-in with your company's mail that manages (or has access to) your Fortinet contract

No rank-&-file employees are going to have that, nor should they need it. This "installer" is needless and inept, as evidenced by numerous other complaints about its pathetic performance.

Overall, Fortinet looks incompetent. This site, for example, frequently rejects correct (auto-populated) credentials and neglects to send access codes on one attempt, only to work fine on the next.

Hi Oscar

If the issue is with FortiClient (the commercial version) then you should open a ticket for a better handling and you will have an effective solution for sure.

In case the issue is with FortiClient VPN (the free version) then know that there is no official support for it and Fortinet provides it for free with no warranty.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what this version is considered. We are told by our IT department to download and install it. I would assume that the client is "free" but the company pays for the back-end service and support. I don't know why we don't just use OpenVPN like every other company I've worked at, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
