Web categories when no communication with Forti Servers

Hello, 

I have a question. 

FortiGate is communicating with Forti Servers to determine the web category. 

When that communication is disrupted, the firewall stops accepting traffic. 

Is there a way to overcome this?

Hi,

When Fortigate is not able to reach the Fortiguard server for web Filtering rating , An error may occur whilst trying to rate a particular webfiltering service which results in the user seeing a "Web Page Blocked" message when accessing the internet.

You can configure the below settings which  will allow users to access the web sites when a rating error occurs, and will allow the FortiGate unit to use the FortiGuard Web Filtering database that it has stored on the unit to rate the web site.Kindly refer the below document.

Go to Security Profiles -> Web Filter, select the Profile to use, under 'Rating Options' enable 'Allow Websites When a Rating Error Occurs'.
