WAN interface vs. regular Port interface

Hello,

We are switching out our backup WAN provider and will temporarily be in need of 3 WAN ports on our 600C unit. It only has 2 ports labeled "WAN" - is there any difference between these ports and the regular ports in terms of speed, processing and other features?

hi,

and welcome to the forums.

No, ports are (within their class=copper/GBIC/10G) identical. They are labeled on the outside for convenience.

But of course there are exceptions:

- do not use "mgmt1" or "mgmt2" for regular routing - only for local administration traffic

- depending on the FortiOS version, if you have a "role" parameter in the Network>Interface section, better set that to "undefined". I've had some nasty side-effects while setting one port to "lan".

- some FGTs have "HA" ports. I'd think they are 100% identical but using them for LAN could be very confusing for the unknowing.

So you should have plenty of ports on a 600C to choose from.
