VPN auto-reconnect stopped working

I am using a MAC and I had the VPN client installed and it was always connected (unless I specifically decided to disconnect it), As soon as my laptop would wake up it would auto-reconnect.  I had to reinstall the OS and therefore reinstalled the VPN client.  I installed the latest version on the site 6.0.7.133.  I'm assuming that I had the same or very similar version installed previously but not sure, but it does look the same.  Now the connection stays up as long as my computer is awake.  Once my computer goes to sleep it does not attempt to reconnect.  I have already set the setting to "always up" and it does not help.  

It is annoying that am working on something remote, go to grab coffee and then VPN drops and I have to start transferring files again.

How can I fix this?
