Upgrading Meru AP832
Hello!
I got a FortiWLC-50D running 8.6-1 build-7 with 17 Fortinet AP832 access point. No problem with that.
I just jot some Meru AP832 access points that I want to add.
They all are running on 6.1-3-5
When I try to update them using
upgrade ap same
The upgrade process hangs at "Reading File". Then after 2 minutes the access point reboots but stays at 6.1-3-5.
What can I do to upgrade those APs?
Thank you in advance

Hi,
You will first have to upgrade the AP using the 7i patch and then upgrade it to the current version. Please find the steps below for the upgrade process.
7iSTEP UPGRADE PROCEDURE:
-----------------------------------
1. Download the patch from the support site.
2. Turn off auto-ap-upgrade
# conf terminal
# auto-ap-upgrade disable
# exit
# copy running-config startup-config
3. Import the patch from WEB UI Maintenance > File management > Patches
4. Install the patch
5. Run the below command from CLI
upgrade ap 7iStep <ap-id> force
Once the AP comes up on 6.1-4-2, do a normal upgrade
# upgrade ap same <ap-id> force
6. Turn ON auto-ap-upgrade
# conf terminal
# auto-ap-upgrade enable
# exit
# copy running-config startup-config
Regards,
Aneesh

Thank you Aneesh
I found another solution meanwhile.
I downloaded an older forti wlc virtual appliance and added the meru access points there. Then I upgraded the virtual appliance to 7 and also the access points. Then upgraded both to 8. After that I was able to use the meru access points in my regular environment.

Hi. I'm in the same situation. I have been given several dozen Meru AP831i units, but they're all on v6.x firmware. Where did you get the older WLC virtual appliance? I only need it to upgrade them to 7.x, then I'll let the WLCs get them up to 8.x. I'll plead charity here. This is a WiFi system that has been donated to a school. It would mean a lot to them, as they have never had WiFi before, and this would be a major improvement to their infrastructure. Thank you!

I downloaded the virtual appliance in the download section in my account (https://support.fortinet.com)
I think you need an active product subscription to download the virtual appliance.
