Upgrading Fortigate via Fortimanager

Can we upgrade Fortigate managed by Fortimanager without following the up-gradation path. Below is the source link.

Please be advised, when upgrading FortiGate devices to a firmware version that is not part of the upgrade path, the warning 'The firmware version is not on firmware upgrade path of selected devices. Upgrading the image may cause the current syntax to break'. is shown.

It means we have to follow the upgradation path from Fortimanager also

Yes, this was introduced in 6.2

In earlier versions of FortiManager, when upgrading FortiGate devices to a higher version than FortiManager, there was no check and the upgrade process would be completed. Managing higher version FortiOS devices with lower version of FortiManager caused issues.

This release includes multiple usability improvements to guide the administrator towards a successful upgrade.

afaik fmg firmware template has a switch to enable/disable the upgrade path. However it is not recommended (except for FGT on factory defaults) to disable it because that could break your config.
