Upgrade path for managed FortiAP and FortiSwitch

Hi FAP & FSW admins

If I'm not misunderstanding, since managed FAP's and FSW's configs are pushed from FGT, then it should not be required to follow upgrade paths for FAP and FSW. Is this correct?

Hi @AEK ,

This is not correct.

Please check the appropriate Release Notes doc.  It does have the upgrade path info.

Hi Jerry

Thanks for your response.

So let's do it otherwise.. I know that on FortiGate we can ignore upgrade path if we do factory reset just after the upgrade. This will avoid having errors in config conversions.

So if I suppose that the upgrade path for managed FAP is to avoid errors in config conversions, then can we do something similar with FAP, like upgrading without path, then deleting the device from FGT management, then adding it back and assign a profile. I guess this should push a new config from FGT that is compatible with the new firmware, right?

Does this method also give wrong result?

Hi @AEK ,

I am not familiar with FortiAP, but I agree with you.

Thanks Sachit

But the document doesn't mention if the AP is managed or not.

So I still think the document is for unmanaged AP. Am I wrong?

APs are either managed by FGT or FortiEdge cloud.
