Upgrade FSSO Agent

I have been informed that I need to upgrade our FSSO agent as its not compatible with the version of firmware our firewall is running, I am looking to limit the downtime, has anyone upgraded and maintained the config, there is an export config but no import option.

Fortinet say you must uninstall and re install but other articles mention you can upgrade and config is retained.

The other option is install on a second server and then add the secondary ip address to the Firewall but am not sure if it will work with two different versions.

Any help would be appreciated.
