Unblock certain game

Hi,

I have a fortigate filter to block the entire games categoriy but i'd like to enable to play on a minecraft java server.

I've exempted *.mojang.com and *.xbox.com but the minecraft java launcher still has no connection to login to my microsoft account. I can run minecraft itself fine, and i can connect to the server but get rejected because my microsoft account is not logged in.

What do i need to exempt for this to work?

Hi

In case there is no minecraft related AppCtrl or ISDB defined on the FortiGate, then one of the possible workaround is to check in FortiGate logs which traffic is blocked from your PC at the time when app is executed, then just add a policy to allow this blocked traffic.

In my experience, the issue isn’t just the general domains like *.mojang.com or *.xbox.com. The Minecraft Java launcher and Microsoft login system use multiple endpoints for authentication, including Azure AD and account.live.com services.

Hey,
I'd suggest to check the logs while attempting to go on the game that way

you'll know exactly what you need to open in terms of ports and destinations.

also, the game is owned by microsoft most likely you'll need to open something of theirs

Hello,
Can you share screenshots of your webfilter configuration and what other categories are blocked?
IF you share also forward logs from your fortigate, on the details part there is a lot of usefult information that can indicate what exactly it is blocking.

Most likely the page redirects to other links prior to the login part, and if you have a web filter that basically "blocks all" except what you want to exempt/allow, it might be that the redirect links are being blocked and therefore you cannot move forward.
If you are able to find the links, you can start to exempt them one by one. (if they are not too many)

Hope this helps!

A lot of us end up dreaming of freer access — whether it’s Minecraft, blackjack, roulette, or just some poker night online. Speaking of games and betting, if you’re into checking out how different online casinos handle game access and bonuses, I found a really cool deep dive here https://casinospacebe.com/review/tikitaka/ that breaks down rooms, slots, live dealer vibes, and even money handling like a pro guide. That site makes it way easier to see what’s legit and what’s hype, especially if you’re into betting, jackpots, or trying your luck with different casino games. Just like tweaking firewall rules, the right info matters big time for a smooth experience!

Hey, I’ve had a similar issue with blocking and unblocking games through FortiGate devices. The best approach I found was to create custom web filtering rules. You can adjust the URL filtering profiles and configure application control policies.
