Hey all, a while back I had to make some changes to the access to my Fortigate 80C. Now I need SSH access and apparently I don't have the correct password for the root account. Is there a way to change the root account's password from the web console? Googling this just brings up how to change the admin password.
Thanks,
Joe B
Thanks, Joe B
Theirs no such beast as a "root" account . I guess you mean "admin" and yes the std SOP is to do this from the console access and you need the "unit serial number".
I posted this on my blog a few years back it's still applicable.

Sigh, I was ssh'ing in from one of my Linux servers while I was operating as root. THAT was what put "root" in as the login name. Thanks for the note about non-existent beasts -- that pointed me in the right direction and I'm in now.
Thanks, Joe B
We've all been there and done that
