Trunk Port Not Working on FortiSwitch 7.0.1 Even With Correct Configuration

Hi, has anyone here experienced an issue where the trunk port on a FortiSwitch running firmware version 7.0.1 does not work even though the configuration appears to be correct?

We already verified the following

1. VLANs are properly created and tagged

2. Trunk mode is configured correctly on both ends (FortiSwitch and upstream device)

3. Interface members are assigned to the trunk as expected

However, the traffic still doesn’t pass through the trunk link. The same configuration works fine when tested on a higher firmware version (e.g., 7.2.4), but it fails on version 7.0.1.

If anyone has encountered this before or knows a workaround, insights would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

If the trunk port is not working on FortiSwitch 7.0.1 despite having the correct configuration, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify LLDP Profile:

    • Ensure that the LLDP profile mapped to the ports is set to default-auto-isl.
    • Use the command:
      FSW# show switch physical-port <port_name>

  2. Check Auto-ISL Setting:

    • Confirm that auto-isl is enabled under the switch global settings.
    • Use the command:
      sh full-configuration switch global

  3. Enable Auto-Network:

    • Ensure that auto-network is enabled with the management VLAN set to 4094.
    • Use the command:
      FSW# config switch auto-network
      set mgmt-vlan 4094
      set status enable
      end

  4. Check Trunk Configuration:

    • Verify the trunk configuration using:
      show switch trunk

  5. Inspect Physical Connections:

    • Ensure that the physical connections between the switches are secure and correct.
  6. Review Logs and Debug:

    • Check the logs for any error messages or warnings.
    • Use debugging commands to gather more information.

If the issue persists after these steps, consider consulting Fortinet support for further assistance.
