Takes 30 minutes to start up.

FortiMail 3000F
Firmware version: 7.4.2

I manage two FortiMail 3000F units.
It has been just about a year since I purchased them.

During that time, I have rebooted and turned off and then on FortiMail several times to work and check its operation.
Normal startup time is about 5 minutes.

However, four months ago, one of the two FortiMail systems was turned off and then on, and it took 30 minutes to boot up.
We had our hardware vendor investigate but could not determine the cause.

Today, we restarted a different FortiMail and it took 30 minutes to start up as in the previous incident.

We are wondering if there is some structural defect in the hardware or software that is causing this, and would appreciate any information you may have on this.

Try connect with serial cable to your FML while you reboot it, so that you can see if any relevant information is shown during the boot process.

Are you still experiencing this issue?
Currently I have the same issue, new Fortimail 400F taking a long time to boot up. This is the first time booting.

When I checked using console cable, I noticed it stuck on "waiting for var" for more than 30 minutes.

First boot should take time more than usual. But I think 30mn is too much.

In case the next boot processes take much time then it may be caused by an issue on filesystem or disk drive. In that case I'd perform a factory reset, and if it doesn't help then contact support for a possible RMA.

Yeah, it only happened on first boot, where it takes more than 30 minutes.
But, after the first boot, the boot time is normal.

Then I think it is fine.

The first long delay makes sense because FML 3000F can have a big storage amount, so the first FS preparation can be very long.

However if you want you can still check the disks and FS before putting it in production.

diagnose system file-system fscheck {logdisk | maildisk}
diagnose system disk ...

Hope it helps.

Mainly the internet like I could get into windows easily but when I open chrome I’m limited to doing absolutely nothing for the next 30 minutes. However in every occasion I updated my computer the following start up would result in a 10 minute long black screen. I’ve also just thought of going back to windows 10 (currently on 11) do you think that could fix any issues I’m having rn?
