Suggestions for the FortiGate Cookbook website

Hello everyone!

Because we're always trying to improve the Cookbook site, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions they'd like to see done. It can be a topic you'd like covered in a recipe or something larger and site-wide.

In case you haven't already checked out the site, you can find it at cookbook.fortinet.com.

Thanks!

Technical Writer, FortiOS

Let me know if there's anything you want to see added to the FortiGate Cookbook.

Hello,

I would really appreciate if you could present the way traffic shaper working and its configuration. Namely for application, Per IP & Shared policy and would glad if you could provide some scenario at the same time.

Another thing also about the DLP different time of DLP configuration and the explanation how its working for email etc

Thank

Thanks for the suggestions, Silver. We actually already are working on a traffic shaping recipe, I'll make sure to pass your specific requests on so they can be addressed.

For the DLP request, I just want to make sure I understand your requirements. Are you looking for something that focuses on how DLP works with email?

Thanks again!

I know the  forticookbook is primarily a  "fortigate" specific cookbook,  but I think FTNT would do best if they would offer various menus for the other FortiXXXXX products.  Since my earlier involvement with fortinet, you have grown your end-products  easily by a factor 10x or more.

I think  offering  recipes for  FortiMAIL would be the next best thing imho.

I deal with a little over half dozen business with fortimail , & who  bug me for everything under the sun. I've made my own personal PowerPoint  recipes sheets for setting up basic Fortimail from gateway to server, creating auto config backup,  mail alias and groups, etc.....

For a current suggestion, if you take the most common everyday cases posted to TAC or even this forum, these would be greate cookbook recipes to start adding to the site.

It would be nice to see FTNT expand the cookbook lineup, but over all is a smart approach. It's the approach that others have taken such as Google to Rackspace.

Thanks for your comment, emnoc.

We are planning to create recipes for the FortiMail, hopefully in the near future. If there are any specific configurations you would like to see in a recipe, please let us know so we can make sure they're on the to-do list.

We will also hopefully have recipes for other products in the future.

As for FortiOS/FortiGate, we do try to cover the configurations that are used most and the ones that can cause the most issues in setting up. This is also why it's so useful for us to get feedback about configurations that people are having problems with so we can address problems people have, rather than trying to guess at what would be the most useful.

Thanks again for your feedback and I'm glad you're finding the Cookbook useful!

What I've seen  are a lot of fortimail newbies having  general problems with basic setup. I think a better wizard might help along with a video demonstration of commissioning a fortimail for gw/server/trans modes.

Than next, most have very limit understanding of the policy profiles for email domain protection. A cookbook explaining this in greater details, would probably be very helpful. And email flow and processing by the security profiles.

I always like to remind security administrators, "  that the cookbook does not eliminate or replace the need for fortinet-training". I see a lot of green newbies who seems to think reading the FortiOS command reference and cookbook replaces the need for technical training.
