Subinterfaces on Fortigate

Hello,

I have a FG-VM01 currently setup on our ESXi server.

I am trying to have multiple vlan/subnets off of one of the physical ports (currently setup as internal and external - ports 1 &2). Currently port 1 is l3 with an IP for internal servers. When I add subinterfaces for the guestnet and internal wifi vlans I am not getting DHCP on the devices coming in with that tagged vlan.

Then I tried to put 0.0.0.0/32 on port 1 and move the server network into a subinterface vlan and it completely  just stopped working, I can't ping the gateway from the same subnet the server is on.

Is there something I am missing; am I configuring this right? This should be possible correct?

Attaching some screenshots.

Thanks in advance!

Charles

Anyone have any advice/suggestions/tips?

Sure,

You need to take a look on your esx configuration.

Your option is to tag at the vm level itself. In order to do this, your protgroup need to be use VLAN tag of 4095, which allows all VLANs to pass through.

The physical interface should be connected to a trunk port to your VM / Switch

You shouldn't have an IP on the physical interface only on the sub interfaces

The VLAN ID is the Vlan tag

You will then need firewall polices to allow traffic to and from the sub-interfaces
