Static AP-Power transmission not work correctly

hello everyone,

I have noticed that the FortiAP U321EV if you force the power TX to the maximum power these do not deliver the desired power. We tried to static the power on the AP profile on the local AP but it doesn't work. We have upgraded FW from PU321E-v6.2-build0323 to PU321E-v7.0-build0031. But it still does not work. Has anyone had the same problem ?

Hello

  1. Regulatory limitations: There may be regulatory limitations on the maximum allowed power output for wireless devices in your region. For example, in some countries, the maximum power output for 5GHz wireless devices is lower than the maximum power output for 2.4GHz devices.
  2. Interference: If there is a lot of interference in the environment, such as from other wireless devices or physical obstacles, the maximum power output of the FortiAP U321EV may not be sufficient to provide the desired coverage.
  3. Distance: If the FortiAP U321EV is too far away from the devices that need to connect to it, even at maximum power output, the signal may not be strong enough to provide reliable connectivity.
  4. Hardware limitations: It's possible that there may be limitations in the FortiAP U321EV hardware that prevent it from delivering the desired power output even when forced to maximum power.

It's important to note that forcing the power TX to the maximum power can also cause issues with interference and violate regulatory requirements, so it's generally not recommended unless absolutely necessary.

Hello Christian_89,

We encountered a strange situation. In this particular design we have enabled only the 5Ghz radio slo 2, and we have set the country/region IT which by European regulations states that on 5Ghz we can go to a maximum of 23dBm. We tried configuring the maximum power on both AP profile and physical AP. However if you look at the Wifi controller of the FortiGate you can see that the Operating TX Power parameter does not go to maximum. Taking the configuration from the AP we notice the following parameter :

txpwr cfg/oper/max : 23/16/16

it is as if it is configured l maximum power but decides not to work at maximum power. However, we have some APs with the same OS and configuration running at 23/23/23.
