Sniffer on PPPoE Interfaces

Has anyone figured out how to do a packet capture on a WAN interface running PPPoE? Yes, I know " diag sniffer packet wan1" works, but I only see the PPPoE encapsulated packets. Is there a way to see the packets before they are encapsulated? Thanks
