One the FGT status>revisions webpage there are our saved configuration revisions. When I "check" one a "Revert" button is revealed.
I searched fortinet sites and manuals (V5). There are many references to reverting the firmware via the GUI but not the configuration files.
Does this "revert" in the GUI perform the command: set cfg-save revert ?

No that set command in sys global does not restore the cfg. You need to explore the following execute cmd
execute restore config flash
It takes the revision value # for the restoral. Beadvise the unit will reboot.
Edit to add the revision #s can be found obvious from the WebGUI or the cli via execute revision list config

I do not have the luxury to test on our production FGT.
What then does (global status>revisions webpage ) the "Revert" button accomplish revealed?
Thanks

It reverts (rolls back) the config, not the firmware at the time the snapshot was taken.
Just like with any config file restore a reboot will be executed automatically to activate the reverted config.
