Replace FortiAP 221C with 221E?

Hi All,

Our small office is running a FortiAP 320C and 221C (5.6.4), controlled by a FortiGate 300D (5.6.5) which works pretty well.

I'm considering replacing the 221C with a 221E and using the 221C as a dedicated monitor.

Wanted to get peoples take on how well the FAP 221E works for them.  Or if it is to be avoided!

Our environment has a lot of RF noise and tons of 2.4GHz APs on non-standard channels so signal monitoring is important.  I have to do a walk around with Chanalyzer every couple months (when bandwidth goes down) to readjust.

On a related note, I've got 3 small (10'x14') rooms stacked one above the other on 3 floors that have only about half the bandwidth of the other spaces.  This is because they are on the corner of the building and their inner wall is filled with power cables and hvac ducts.  I've got available net taps in the top and bottom rooms and am considering adding a small AP that is more directional and can beam straight up or down.  Any suggestions for a FortiAP or third party AP that could handle this well, and still do 802.1X to connect to a FortiAuthenticator for RADIUS?  It would be nice if it had 802.11ac but not required.

Hi ,

Compared to 221C ..221E have more Data Throughput .You can check in Datasheet .But FortiAuthenticator is not mandatory for Radius , you can also use windows NPS server .
