Rename a vdom

Is there a way to rename a vdom in FG 5.2.9?

need to adapt the name as we are introducing new naming.

The short answer Nope.

But you can  download the vdom-cfg ( find/replace or unix sed subsitution ) , delete the vdom,  re-add the new name and reload the modify cfg. Just police all items and cross-finger.

Just remember the vdom "name" is just a name and serves no major point. So unless this task is going to net you  a big gain, then I would leave it as-is but that's my 2ct opinion.

The same goes for interface names and zones, they are hard to impossible to rename

Ok thx. What exactly are the consequences of deleting the vdom and then recreating it: - what happens to the interfaces assigned to the VDOM? Or must one remove them and everything that references it delete first? - reload, you mean a firewall reload? I will not be able to do that with our FG1500D HA Cluster. You are also right about the name and nobody should care. I would prefer to give it a long ID or whatever. But we have still many laborers, that have to modify individual configurations and we refer to them by keywords that can change and then we have no proper mapping and people make errors. If Fortinet would have a proper management solution then nobody would ever need to rename anything as the management could do the abstraction layer. But alas, I learned that even if they try to improve the management they are far behind many other vendors. I know that I lost, money is only to be had with REST API and full dynamic automation, but hey there are still enterprises that have to manage 100+ firewalls with no team of programmers to automate away. And some of us cannot convince either to do that yourselves or invest in Tuffin ;)
