Quick Question About FWF60c and AP220B

Can a FWF60c control an AP220B when the FWF60c is running 4.2.11? I don' t see anywhere where I can enable the wireless controller in the FWF (CLI or web interface) so I' m guessing no. How about if the FWF60c is running 4.3.x?

FortiWiFi models running firmware 4.2.x can only support the internal wireless, but firmware 4.3.x allows for wireless controller management of FortiAP hardware in conjunction with the internal wireless AP.

What' s the check box for that says " Enable Wireless Controller" for then? Look under " System > Admin > Setting" on 4.2.11. I don' t use FortiAP, so it makes no difference to me. Just a curiosity thing.

The option to enable the wireless controller exists on the FortiGate but not the FortiWiFi units running v4.2. From the FortiGate v4.0 MR2 Admin Guide page 355:

Most FortiGate units, but not FortiWiFi models, can act as a wireless network controller, managing the wireless Access Point (AP) functionality of FortiWiFi units.

I have always used the special " wireles controller" build for FortiOS 4.2 on non-WiFi units to support current FortiAP hardware. There is no special " wireless controller" build for the FortiGate-60C, but then again the 60C is a special build on its own. I have never tested FortiAPs with a FortiGate-60C running 4.2.

Upgraded a FWF60c test unit at my house to 4.3.7 and set the AP220' s IP statically and it now works like a charm.
