Question about FortiAP

Hi

Does Fortinet access point - the FortiAP - only work with a fortigate device or can you plug it into any brand router or add to any existing wireless network. So for example if I had 3 Ruckus could I just add a FortiAP to that network to get more coverage? Someone told me that you have to have a fortigate or else it wont work. Is this true?

Hi,

Depending on the model of FortiAP you'll need either a Fortigate, a FortiWLC, or FortiCloud to control the APs.

Be careful mixing AP vendors. The FortiAP will not communicate with the Ruckus APs so they will see each other as Rogues and possibly block each other depending on your rogue policies. Also they will not share info on client so roaming will be affected as will be radio resource management (ie you may get more interference).

Cheers,
Graham
