No matter what I do my LAB fortiGate Cannot reach licence servers !!

I'm now on day 2 trying to fix this. This is just such a waste of my time; I'm going to have to scrap the VMs and start again soon. This is what seems to be required every time I need to renew the licence on these. am I hitting a BUG ?

Multi VDOM setup in a lab, the LAB has its own NAT and firewall to access the internet.
Any out rule.

I'm Assuming the VM is using the "root" VDOM for the licencing.

LAB-XXX-FW-A (root) # execute ping service.fortiguard.net
PING guard.fortinet.net (208.184.237.61): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 208.184.237.61: icmp_seq=0 ttl=43 time=156.5 ms
64 bytes from 208.184.237.61: icmp_seq=1 ttl=43 time=156.6 ms
^C
--- guard.fortinet.net ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 156.5/156.5/156.6 ms

LAB-XXX-FW-A (root) # end

LAB-XXX-FW-A # config global

LAB-XXX-FW-A (global) # execute vm-license XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This operation will reboot the system !
Do you want to continue? (y/n)y

Requesting FortiCare license token:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx proxy:(null).

dns resolve error

Starting to loathe the product, other vendors make this so much easier.

Are the any logs that can help me here.
