I'm trying to manage the wifi settings on a FortiWiFi 50E-2R using the Fortiapcloud but without success. I'm thinking that this function is not available for this device?
When I go onto the FortiAPCloud website, no device is displayed. When I try to add the key from the FortiWiFi 50E-2R, it says to enter the device using the FortiGateCloud. The device is setup in the FortiGateCloud and I am able to manage most of the devices settings using that interface.
I'm intending to deploy some 50E's at remote offices. Most will use the internal wifi radio's, but some other locations may use AP's as well. ALso the head office will definitly be using multiple AP's through out the building.
It would be nice to be able to manage all using the one interface.
I am able to manage the Wifi settings by connecting to the device directly, but I am hoping to be able to manage it using the cloud management interface.
FortiCloud is the wireless controller for APs that don't have the controller feature. FortiWiFi is always the wireless controller for its build-in AP feature. So, I don't think you can move the controller feature to somewhere else like FortiCloud, FortiGate, or FortiWLC.
That is unfortunate. Pretty much all other functions are available using the cloud. Not having that feature isn't a deal breaker, but it would have made management a little easier.
Is it possible that something like that maybe added to the cloud management in the future?
I don't think it's about the capability of FortiCloud, but about the design of FortiWifi. It probably requires hardware modification inside of FortiWifi to separate the AP function part from "FortiGate" part, then we need to be able to configure the FortiAP part of FortiWiFi to connect to FortiCloud, which we can do with any FortiAPs.
