Mailerdaemon when IP of sending mailserver is on forti-blacklist

Hi folks,

just one short question. Is it normal, that -if a senders mailserver- is on a fortiblacklist and a mail is send via this server, that the sender did not receive an information that the mail is blocked by the fortigate?

So, the sender will never recognize that his mail was blocked..?!

Thanks!

Hi Unfortunately this is "normal" as the FG doesn't act as a Mailserver, nor has the possibility to inform the mailsender.

Yes we do realize we are being blocked by FortiGuard as it comes in mail delivery fail to us (senders) in shape ''is blacklisted by FortiGuard. This email from IP  has been rejected. The email message was detected as spam''

Imagine you would send a notification to a (real) spammer that your fortigate is blocking his mails. You would easily flood the net with unsolicited emails. So, spam is dropped silently (or rather, not accepted nor acknowledged).

But you could be notified, as the FortiMail is generating a log entry when blocking spam. Preferably by logging to a FortiAnalyzer which could react to this event (say, if 10 emails from one mailserver are blocked within one day, send the local admin a notification email).
