wondering if FQDN would be supported as a real server's address in a load balancing config? It seems that just IP addresses are supported but not using a FQDN? Thanks,

No, it does not. On the other hand, they have FortiWeb that does support FQDNs for real server, so it would be IMO not smart for them to implement all the features of FWB in FGT - who would buy FWB then :) ?
