Inventory of traffic

Dears,

I want to get an inventory of all websites (via laptops) and apps (via mobile phones) that are used on my lan & wifi network. How do I have to configure my fortigate to work in "transparant monitor"-mode for all traffic sent to the WAN ?

Next step woul be then to activate policies to block unwanted destinations.

Do you have a cookbook how to tackle this ?

I have a #FG30E running FortiOS 5.6.4

Thx for your help !

Hello,

Thank you for your question. I think this might be what you are looking for:

https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortigate/6.0.0/handbook/299391/learning-mode

But you will need to have logging enabled, so Forticloud logging would be the best for you.

and before you do anything, start with an upgrade. FortiOS 5.6 is long out of support.

To which version would you recommend me to go ?

Can i upgrade in one move towards 6.x or do I have to make intermediate steps ?

AlexC-FTNT

intermediate steps are made so you don't lose the configuration or parts of it. If you don't have any configuration, simply install the version you need, directly. FortiOS 6.0 is no longer developed, will also reach end of support this year. I would suggest using 6.2 (the latest available). FG 30E can't go any further up (does not support 6.4 or 7.0)

Hey Bart,

you can check recommended upgrade paths here:

https://docs.fortinet.com/upgrade-tool

Regarding FortiCloud, all you need to do is create an account at forticloud.com if you have no Fortinet account yet (support account credentials should be the same as FortiCloud credentials), and then on the FortiGate enable logging to FortiCloud and provide the FortiCloud login when prompted: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Sending-logs-to-FortiCloud/ta-p/191694

Hey, thx for your answer. When looking at the instruction :

Go to System -> FortiGuard and under FortiGate Cloud select 'Activate'.

>> I don't have the option Fortigate Cloud. How do I get it in the menu ?

Debbie_FTNT

You might need to activate FortiCloud in the Dashboard first:
