ICMP Probe Timing
Hi,
We' re having an issue with our Equalizer E250GX reporting servers in a pool being down overnight, when the servers are actually up. I' m thinking that due to nightly updates, backups, etc. maybe some latency is causing pings not to return quickly. So, my question is what is the frequency of the ICMP probes, and can this be adjusted? Other than that, I' m open to any suggestions/advice on how to correct this issue.
Thanks!
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
This is configurable but allowing more time for the servers to respond will introduce latency into the network. The Equalizer will then take more time before removing a server from the pool because its down.
The best solution is to find out what is causing the latency and fix it. Can the backup be run over a separate network segment?
Packet captures taken at the time the servers are being marked down might help as well.
Thanks,
David
