hi, and welcome to the forums. Please use the Forum Search to find several threads and doc pointers for " password recovery" . You do not have to completely reset the FGT. All you need is a serial connection and physical access.

hi ede I did look up on the password recovery method and i did try but it didn' t work. I cant use hypertem, putty or etc for console connection. Every time i power cycle the firewall, i can only access Forti Explorer when the firewall is ready. Is there such way that i can do the password recovery using Forti Explorer?

See this thread. Some of us have attempted to get into the boot menu via the FortiExplorer' s virtual console with no success, but this is a different story then what you are attempting. If you can access the virtual console from within FortiExplorer, press <enter> a few times if you do not already see the login prompt. (You may have to reboot the fgt while within the virtual console to see the login prompt.) After that follow the rest of the documentation for resetting the pw. You might have something like 14 seconds (from a cold boot) to successfully complete the process.

I agree, the hard part is to interrupt the boot process from the console window of FortiExplorer. FE should be already connected, console window open, and if you then power cycle the FGT you should be able to interrupt the boot process by hitting a key. You might also try whether the newest version of FE is more helpful.

Hi Ede and Dave, Thanks for the tips. Will give it a try tomorrow. Hopefully it should work. Worst case scenario, if that doesn' t work, what else can be done?

There is the reset pinhole, which supposedly does a factory reset, including (supposedly) a format on the boot device. In that event you will have to restore the config from a backup.
