How to downgrade firmware in FortiGate-201F Firewall

Dear Concern,

I need to downgrade the firmware of my FortiGate-201F firewall from 'v7.6.2 build3462 (Feature)' to 'v7.4.7 build2731 (Mature)'. How can I do this? Please provide the steps.

On the Fortinet Support Portal , there is an option to check the upgrade path, but not for downgrade path. Does this mean that a downgrade path is not required? Can I directly downgrade to the desired firmware, or do I need to follow a specific downgrade path?

Please guide me.

Hi,

If you upgrade directly from 7.4.7 to 7.6.2, you  can revert to the previous firmware and configuration by booting FortiGate with the secondary partition by following the instructions in the given article

If there are multiple firmware upgrades and you need to revert to the original version. By referring to the given article, you must format the flash with a TFTP server and load the initial firmware version. Then, restore the configuration file that was saved prior to the upgrade.

Hello,

If you have upgraded from version 7.4.7 you can simply boot from the backup partition :

diag sys flash list

exec set-next-reboot primaro or secondary

If you have started from 7.6.2 then you can upload version 7.4.7 similar to the upgrade procedure and the fortigate will downgrade.

Take configuration backups in all cases

Be aware that if you're running HA, downgrading the firmware will cause both devices in the cluster to go down. Exercise caution as this may result in a network outage.

Hi Mirza

In summary, if you don't really need to downgrade then just don't do it.
